My dear children, I write this to you so that you will not sin. But if anybody does sin, we have an advocate with the Father—Jesus Christ, the Righteous One. - 1 John 2:1 -
The laws of America in recent years has redefined what it means to sin. The fact that a person can take what is not theirs from a store as long as it’s within a price range is called tolerant. On the other hand, a prayer club in school and speaking out about the perverseness of this world is criminal and bigotry. Isaiah prophesied long ago that people will come to see wrong as right and right as wrong (Isa. 520-22). They will not fight for it or even understand that they are wrong. The Apostle Paul echoes the same sentiments referring to darken hearts and futile mind (Rom. 1:21-23). The comforming of the patterns of this world is coming to furtion with the nauncing of sin (Rom. 12:1).
Unfortunately the philosophies of the world has come to blur the line between what it means to sin. Recently I saw video with host of the "Daily Wire" Matt Wash showing a video where three pastors were talking and criticizing him for his documentary “Am I a Racist.” One of the pastor said that “if you read the sermon on the mount, Jesus would have never been counter culture.” On the show “The View” one of the ladies exclaimed, “Jesus would have led the pride parade.” Unfortunately, Jesus would have wept as he did for Jerusalem because they did not recognize and repent of their sins (Matt. 23). He would have denounced their sins as he did with Chorazin and Bethsaida (Matt. 11:20-24). He would have compassionately whispered, “Go and leave your life of sin (Jn. 8:11)”. God is Love, Jesus is Love, and Love demands a righteous life which is counter culture.
Christians, we live in scary times not knowing the sinfulness of our lives especially the omitted ones. Yet the good news has always been that through confession and repentance, Jesus is the Advocate on our behalf to the Father. In Him, the Father sees nothing but perfect righteousness of which has been imputed to us when we placed our faith in him. This doesn’t mean we continue to sin so that his grace may increase (Rom. 6) but it means our endeavor to live a sanctified life cannot be throttled by sin. When focused on Jesus we will know his perfect will (Rom. 12:2). The one who keeps his words is the one who loves Him.
In Him,
Rev. Kevin Her
