Dear friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you, even as your soul is getting along well. - 3 John 2 -
When someone you love or know suddenly passes away, the news radiates throughout your body and mind. It seems surreal as your mind takes you back to the last time you’ve spoken to that person and trying to recall every good word that was spoken or conversation that was good. Understanding that our lives are in God’s hands (Acts 17:26), John reminded his good friend Gaius that he is praying for him to be in good physical and spiritual health.
We shouldn’t allow the busyness of life to overtake our need to reach out to our friends and family. Regret often comes in the form of time, often thinking that tomorrow’s another day. James reminds us that “tomorrow is never promised (Js. 4:14)” so live out today bringing glory to Christ in all that you do.
Christians, we don’t have to wait for a letter to come in the mail anymore, we don’t have to pay 25 cents per minute for a call, and we don’t have to wait for another person to finish their conversation to use the phone anymore so let us make time for one another and those we cherish. As AT&T once wrote, “Reach out and touch someone”. It doesn’t have to be physical touch but the presence of knowing that you care brings great joy to the persons life just by hearing your voice.
I’m sure Gaius was truly happy to hear from his personal and great friend John. The salutation says it all, “To my dear friend, whom I love in the truth.” We have many families and friends in the truth, reach out to them and remind them that they are loved.
In Him,
Rev. Kevin Her
