Therefore, while the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us fear lest any of you should seem to have failed to reach it. - Hebrews 4:1 -
Labor Day is a time America celebrates resting from their daily grind. It is time when families and friends gather to enjoy one another’s company and conversations. It is a time when the aroma of bbq hot dogs and hamburgers or better yet, steaks, sausages, and pork ribs fill the air. It is a time of round stomachs and plenty of left overs for third round.. at least it used to be. That was yesterday’s version of Labor Day.
It seems we’ve grown tired of the old Labor Day and so we throw away the grill and fellowship. Likewise, many have grown tired of the old Gospel and want a new gospel to fit their needs. In their search they have gone astray and turned the Gospel into a reality show. The writer of Hebrews warns that doing so will lead you away from the true rest that still stands open and all they have to do is “believe or have faith” in the old Gospel that is at hand. What is the old Gospel, but that God sent his Son to die for all of humanity and those who have faith in his Son will enter the “True Rest”.
The rest that American’s enjoy today is a rest of “physical” strength so that one is refreshed, but the rest of the Lord's is “Eternal”. Therefore, live in fear so that one will not fail to enter the “Rest” that the Lord offers.
In Him,
Rev. Kevin Her
