The name of the LORD is like a strong tower. Those who do what is right can run to him for protection. The rich think their wealth will protect them. They think it is a strong fortress. - Proverbs 18:10-11 -
How many of you remember your first paycheck? The first time you laid eyes on how much you actually made because you’ve never made that much before. Then your mind starts to wander off about all the things you can buy with the money you made, how you can now be independent and not rely on anyone. You’re like, I’ve made it. It’s security and so you’ve place your faith and hope in the money that you’ve seen. It’s been years and you may still be chasing after that security only to see that you may be more vulnerable.
1 Tim. 6:10 describes love for money as the root of evil and the writer of Hebrews (He. 13:5) echos the same sentiment and reminds you to be content with what you have because God is your security and your protector who will never leave you.
We seem to think that God is against money but we are wrong in our assessment. God is against us placing our trust and faith in money. It is the goodness of God, the love of God, the blessing of God, and the grace of God that we are able to do what we do. Therefore, the right thing as Solomon writes is to place our faith and trust in LORD because he alone is the strong tower that will never fall.
