Trust and Hope

Wake up, you drunkards, and weep;

wail, all you wine drinkers,

because of the sweet wine,

for it has been taken from your mouth.

Joel 1:5

Have you ever tried to help someone out of an addiction? It doesn’t matter what type of an addiction it is, whether we deem it to be good or bad because all addictions become your god. They take you away from the life that God desires for you. Waking someone up from their addiction is truly difficult because the entrenchment is deep and it is the only thing the person knows. The person will always return to it unless someone awakens the person to the reality of the sinful life the person is living.

Waking up the drunkard, speaks to that person who places their hope and trust in this sinful world. They don’t see anything wrong with this world, in fact they love the world as it was their god, yet one day they will be awaken to the sad lifeless reality of such hope. Whatever or whoever that hope is short of Jesus Christ, will inevitably leave your hope and life devastated.

True life and true hope is found only in Jesus Christ. Trust and hope in anything else will fail and fall short of the God’s redemptive will for your life.

In Him,

Rev Kevin Her
